Following a stroke at age 47 in March 2023, the founder of At Nature's Pace PMQ, Emily Barber, has expanded the focus of the business to assist other stroke survivors in their recovery. The principles of a health lifestyle are even more important following a stroke and Emily is passionate about supporting others following a stroke through assistance with nutrition, fitness and mindfulness.
To assist stroke survivors with their recovery, At Nature's Pace has a special package for stroke survivors. This package contains 10 one-hour sessions which include a tailored exercise plan cleared by the client's GP, mindfulness activities, and nutrition training and advise. This package is offered at a greatly reduced rate from the regular package prices. For further details, please send us a message or email atnaturespacepmq@yahoo.com.

Fitness training is still possible even if it is not possible to go to a gym or do exercise standing because of balance or mobility issues by using a chair to facilitate the necessary movements safely. Therefore, people who wish to keep active and preserve their physical and mental health will find that chair supported fitness regimes are an excellent option,
The mild practice of chair fitness is performed either while sitting in a chair or standing with the assistance of a chair. Weights and resistance bands can be utilised to add additional benefits to the fitness practice. It is important that a yoga mat or something similar is placed under the chair to ensure that the chair does not slide around during the workout.
Warming up before starting a more intense chair workout is very important. Cooling down and stretching is also vital to good health. If you have time, adding breathing exercises and/or meditation at the end of the session can help promote good physical and mental health and a wonderful way to complete the workout. Some examples of good warmup activities include raising the arms overhead, flexion and extension of the back and shoulders, head rotation, lateral bends to the left and the right, wrist and ankle rotations, bending forward to bring the chest to the thighs, and twist of the torso with arm raises.
At Nature's Pace PMQ is delighted to offer chair fitness sessions for stroke survivors (or anyone with limited mobility or balance concerns). Video examples of chair fitness exercises will be posted in the future.
