Welcome!

I'm so glad your journey, your path, has led you here. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, or simply looking for a gentler way forward, I want you to know that you're not alone.

I've been so fortunate (at least in retrospect) to walk on so many different professional paths to get to this point in my life —an elite athlete, lawyer, CIA intelligence officer, business leader, and now someone deeply passionate about supporting people through recovery, trauma, and personal growth.  My personal path has also been diverse - a global traveler, a gender equality advocate, a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a friend.

Some of my greatest lessons came from navigating my own history of trauma, burnout, mental health challenges, and substance dependence, and learning how to find my way back to myself.  To the little girl who loved and felt loved.  Who was curious and bold.  Who danced to her own music and didn't shy away from the world or try to fit in.

I don't see myself as someone with all the answers (or even close to it!) I see myself as someone who walks alongside others with empathy and compassion, helping them discover the strengths, values, and wisdom they already possess.

I believe lasting change rarely comes from dramatic breakthroughs. (My evolution certainly didn't.) it comes from taking one small, values-driven step today, then another tomorrow, and again the day after that.

So I welcome you here, wherever you are on your journey back to yourself.  My hope is that this space offers encouragement, practical tools, and the reminder that healing doesn't have to happen all at once. It unfolds in its own time—at nature's pace.

About Emily Barber

Emily brings together professional education, trauma-informed training and lived experience of substance-use recovery and residential treatment.

Her background includes:

  • Training in trauma-informed coaching, substance use disorder recovery, mental health recovery, and post-traumatic growth facilitation.
  • Education in nervous-system regulation, breathwork, mindfulness and wellbeing.
  • Experience supporting people affected by mental-health concerns, trauma and substance dependence.
  • Extensive professional experience in high-responsibility, international and complex working environments.
  • Lived experience of treatment, recovery and rebuilding a meaningful professional and personal life.

Emily understands that someone can be educated, capable and professionally accomplished while privately struggling.

Her approach is practical, compassionate, and non-judgmental. She does not require clients to adopt a particular recovery identity or view themselves through one fixed model of addiction.

Lived experience is used thoughtfully and only when it supports the client’s understanding and goals.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

At Nature's Pace was created from the belief that growth happens in a place where progress matters more than perfection, where setbacks are seen as part of the journey rather than proof of failure, and where we honor the fact that every person's path is unique.
